miya, this is SO good. i cried & laughed throughout the entire thing & am typing thru tears now--sorry if that's weird to say! anyway, really happy you are okay! RIP tony todd! <3
"there’s something kind of sexually humiliating about wiping the ultrasound goo off when the tech is done" lmao.
Great piece (I went through similar thing with liver, way too relatable), great scan tier list. MRI gotta be #1 for me though. The noises MRI machines are so loud and insane and all different from each other that it's funny to me. I remember the first one I got I legitimately was struggling not to giggle. It's like a machine from Tim and Eric.
Horrible though it might be to even think this, but the whole nightmare for you (and for us, your parents, especially an extremely neurotic Jewish father who has always freaked out if his beloved daughters suffered so much as a cold) was almost worthwhile if it provided fodder for such a brilliant, disturbingly hilarious account of the ordeal. Cost = priceless!
I used to do stand-up MRIs, which kinda ruled because they let me watch HGTV, but now that I do lay-down I get super anxious about trying to narrow down a music choice...the 2001 score is kinda genius, I might have to try that for my next one.
thank you!!! and hope you're doing well too! okay watching TV during an MRI sounds so fun (my sister once went to a dentist in london that let her watch TV during a procedure and i was so jealous), but highly rec 2001 for an immersive vibe. i also was very aware of not wanting to pick anything that would make me want to dance and mess up the imaging??
Technology has come so far, there has to be a way to get some kind of screen in there...
My method has been like "uhhh, Taylor Swift" or Billy Joel because I realized that if I know all the words and the exact length of a song, it helps me track the amount of time I'm in there. Probably not the best way to go about it 😭
i did totally consider asking for into the woods because i know the prologue is 12-15 min long depending on the recording and i can kind of guesstimate from there

i was agog when i realized how noisy the MRI was gonna be, what a crazy machine. great afternoon. sorry you went through similar/ty for reading!!
I wanted appendicitis so bad as a kid (the chokehold Madeline had on me) … also very glad you’re ok!!
if my appendix refuses to burst, i'll simply have to find other ways to be madeline (move to paris with 11 girls and buy a big hat).
also thank you!!
the fact that adam told you to use a photo of david guetta more than once ??? is the most adam thing i’ve ever heard. king of tripling down
so insistent… as if i would recognize david guetta outside the context of the rooftop “shoutout to his family” clip
very good article Miya. I am also all in for this wave of Wasian horror.
they should reveal annabelle is wasian in the last conjuring, just to make it a neat 3
